WHy do major league catchers use hockey goalie helmets?

instead of a catchers mask
THe padres catcher, Cardinals catcher.... a lot
and pirates

First of all it's not a hockey mask. The design is taken from hockey, and it is often referred to as such, but it is a catcher's mask.

Second ,it is much much lighter.

Third, you can see more w/it on than a traditional mask.

Fourth, it doesn't slide around on your head the way the traditional masks do when you look-up for a pop-up.

Fifth, they stay in place when you throw.
