Angel Stadium at Anaheim
On October 1, 1996, the Angel Stadium at Anaheim started its renovation making the 30-year old field structure to a baseball-only facility. The renovation for the stadium cost $100 million and was completed on April 1, 1998 which was just in time for the opening day of the Anaheim Angels. The Angel Stadium at Anaheim has become the home of the Anaheim Angels Baseball team after moving from Los Angeles in 1965. It was also the previous home of the NFL's Los Angeles Rams. The stadium has been referred to
the Big A as its unofficial nickname.
The stadium is a modern ball-park located in California. You will find the "Big A" landmark
sign which serves as a scoreboard support. It lights up every time the Angels won a game at home or outside the city. The stadium was built on a parcel of land about 160 acres or 0.65km² which was originally used for agricultural purposes in the southeast point of the city. The field dimensions are at 333 feet instead of the usual 330 feet. This is due to the study and observation based on air density conducted by the team that resulted to an inference of a fairly balanced dimension between pitcher,
hitter and the average weather condition.
The architectural firms involved in the remodelling of the Stadium were the Populous and the Walt Disney Imagineering. In 1966, the stadium can hold a capacity of 43,250 people and in 1979, it has a capacity to cater 64,593 people for a game of baseball and 69,008 people for a game of football. In 2005, the stadium was able to hold a capacity of 45,050 people. Before getting the official Angel Stadium name, the stadium has had two other names. These were Anaheim Stadium carried from 1964 to 1997 and Edison International Field of the city from 1998-2003.
If you are in the city during a scheduled ball game, you can drop by the stadium located in 2000 Gene Autry Way. The newly renovated stadium features a terraced bullpen in the outfield and widened concourses. It has also newly constructed restrooms with modernized press box and broadcast booths. The seats are constructed in a family-oriented seating section together with high-end club and dugout level suites. You will also find the Pepsi Perfect Game Pavilion designed as a youth oriented game area. Statues in remembrance of Gene Autry and Michelle Crew can be found situated in well landscaped
courtyards.
If you happen to be hungry or thirsty in the middle of a ball game, you will find newly opened restaurants in Angel Stadium. The new restaurants include, the Knothole Club is a sports bar located down the right field line, the upscale restaurant Diamond Club which has an outdoor seating beside the home plate and the indoor restaurant, Homeplate Club, which is on the club level overlooking the main entrance to the ball park. Whenever you feel like grabbing a sandwich, a hotdog or a soda, you can simply select from among these three restaurants. You will be able to enjoy a ballgame while feasting on your favourite snack.
The Angel Stadium has witnessed a lot of historical events in baseball history. This include the remarkable hall of famer Ryan Nolan who threw two records of seven no hitters in this ballpark. He has also racked up 2,416 of his 5,714 strikeouts in eight seasons. There were other memorable events in baseball history that has take n place in this stadium. So the next time you visit this city, be sure that you drop by the stadium and enjoy a baseball game while relieving historical events with a sandwich and a glass of soda at hand.
